In the Shadow of Peace

WAR RAGES AS IT HAS FOR DECADES…

The view of peace is varied; some want nothing more, others hungry for war to continue.

In the Shadow of Peace enters the epic world of Roasline as the saga follows an olive farmer trying to suppress his past; a blacksmith’s daughter knowing her own mind; a wise and charismatic leader, respected by her people and a drunken old man who turns up in the most unusual places.

There is the scarred ocean weary sailor, weathered by the rough seas and who trusts no one; the crippled sorcerer, flailing and desperate to regain his powers; a troubled son on a mysterious journey to find his destiny and a devout monk, who lives a sheltered life of worship outside the world of the raging war.

Lives are entwined in a place where ambition is rewarded, and power is the greatest strength. Lives are challenged on every level as they strive to survive turmoil, adventure, villainy, love, and fear.

A world of war creates the generation of heroes to come.

“A marvellous debut novel into the new and exciting world of Roasline for those who love this genre…masterful, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable…” Trevor, Indiebook Reviewer.
CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE: Shawline Publishing has gone into liquidation and I am working on bringing this book back for sale via other means...

New Photos added November 2024!!!
I love to take photos when I'm travelling when the world inspires me and I have a bit more time to compose the shot.
My photos are by no means professional quality, but I have used them to make gift cards, print canvases and construct calendars and photo books.

Other Writing

As well as writing a novel, I have also written a few poems and short stories.
My latest work is a novella published as an eBook available here: The Run Of My Life.

The marathon is gruelling; it will lift you up or cast you into the gutter… but then, so can life.
Alex’s first marathon will require strength of character, and a life filled with victories and hardships to draw on. Will Alex have the mental strength to complete the Melbourne Marathon or will the 42.2km prove too much?
It’s getting closer, should I stop? A few kilometres ago, stopping wasn’t even in my vocabulary, and now I’m considering it as a possibility. Think Alex, why am I doing this, why am I putting myself through this? I know exactly why I’m doing this, for whom I’m doing this... and I’m not stopping for a bit of discomfort, not on my life!
The Run of My Life is a novelette compressing Alex’s life events through the struggle of completing a marathon. This fast-paced, visceral tale will have you racing along with Alex from the starting gun to the finishing line.

The first one, A Life, reminds me that we are small in the universe and that we may come and go, yet the passing of time continues oblivious to our existence.
My second poem, Nigel the Narwhal, was a fun little thing that I wrote for my kids; a story about a vain narwhal called Nigel.
I entered two micro-fiction pieces in the 2022 Queenscliff Literary Festival competition: Swimming Blind and Annabelle and Arnold. I was lucky enough to win the "popular vote" section with Annabelle and Arnold where I had a bit of fun making every word start with the letter "A".

About

Adrian Weeks feeding kangaroo on Philip Island
I grew up in a delightful Victorian coastal town where my summers were filled with body-boarding in the local surf and winters warmed by open fires on cold days.
After school, I moved to Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Pharmacy in the student hub of Parkville. Working as a hospital pharmacist at Western Health for over a decade, I undertook a range of roles from clinical pharmacist to education pharmacist.
However, the song of the ocean called, and my wife and I desired to raise our family in a more relaxed environment. So we moved back to my home town just before the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in Australia.
Outside of pharmacy work, I enjoy reading and writing fantasy / adventure / historical-like fiction with my first novel In the Shadow of Peace released in May 2022. I’m currently working on a prequel to this, exploring the back story of one of the pivotal characters.
Unfortunately for me, my writing has to fit in with the busy life of working full time and raising a young family. This meant that In the Shadow of Peace took 8 years to write. Hopefully, my next book will not take so long.
Many inspirations for my writing have evolved from travelling throughout Europe, Morocco, Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia. The pandemic, and having a young family, has reduced my possibilities of travel and I would love to explore new parts of the world with my family in the future.
Another passion of mine is running. While I’m well past my prime when it comes to running personal bests, I still enjoy setting myself goals and achieving them. In the next few years, I’m hoping to run my second marathon, however I’ve been plagued by injuries over the last handful of years, preventing any meaningful training being undertaken. My half-marathon PB is 1:28:08 and marathon PB is 3:30:36. A lot of what I know about running I’ve learnt from the Inside Running Podcast and I would highly recommend this to any runner.
That's enough about me for now and I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes from my favourite book: "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." - Gandalf - Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
